Urban Heat Island vulnerability mapping using advanced GIS data and tools

چکیده

Urban Heat Island (UHI) is a phenomenon that can cause hotspots in city areas due to dense, impervious infrastructure and minimal vegetation cover. UHI may become worse extreme heat events are already affecting many regions across the globe increased frequent hot extremes, human-induced warming cities, rapidly growing urbanization, as documented by latest IPCC report 2021. In seeking support designers, planners, decision-makers developing implementing adaptation strategies measures make our cities sustainable resilient, reliable projections modelling required. this study, we modelled vulnerability using high-resolution spatial data, advanced geospatial tools, socio-demographic data. This modified approach drew upon index maps 20 select customized indicators of exposure, population sensitivity, mobility/adaptive capacity. The were Delphi evaluated weighted, methodology was applied against City Greater Geelong municipality Australia. resulting indicated significant high building density, commercial/industrial zones, newly constructed sites, zones with low urban green infrastructure. These maps, combination selected indicators, highlighted areal concentration risk vulnerable locations for sensitive human population. primarily concentrated density areas, which seen through correlation curves. However, showed weak correlation, per meshblock strong measurements. study provides comprehensive analysis mapping assessment GIS data advancement major local government area concludes has replicability incomparable geographical regions.

Mapping Manchester’s urban heat island

An urban heat island (UHI) is a phenomenon whereby urban areas experience elevated temperatures relative to the surrounding rural hinterland. This thermal contrast is brought about by anthropogenic modification of the environment. For example, there is little bare earth and vegetation in urban areas. This means that less energy is used in evaporating water, less of the Sun’s energy is reflected...

Urban land use mapping using register data and standard GIS

This paper will show one way to generate land use maps from register data. The register data used here is the Danish Building and Dwelling Register (BBR). The thematic result map showing urban land use will be based on a regular grid net with cell size of 100 m by 100 m. Each cell will be classified, based on the information on the buildings falling inside that cell. This paper will also presen...

Mapping Urban Heat Demand with the Use of GIS-Based Tools

This article presents a bottom-up approach for calculation of the useful heat demand for space heating and hot water preparation using geo-referenced datasets for buildings at the city level. This geographic information system (GIS) based approach was applied in the case study for the city of Krakow, where on the one hand the district heat network is well developed, while on the other hand ther...

THIS - Tool for Heat Island Simulation: A GIS extension model to calculate urban heat island intensity based on urban geometry

This paper presents a simulation model, which was incorporated into a Geographic Information System (GIS), in order to calculate the maximum intensity of urban heat islands based on urban geometry data. The methodology of this study stands on a theoretical-numerical basis (Oke’s model), followed by the study and selection of existing GIS tools, the design of the calculation model, the incorpora...

Vulnerability to heat waves: Impact of urban expansion scenarios on urban heat island and heat stress in Paris (France)

Heat-wave risk in cities is determined both by regional climate evolutions and by cities size and shape change, because they can impact heat island effect. Land planning and urban transport policies, due to their long-lasting impact on cities shape, can therefore play a role in heat-wave risk mitigation. However, the link between these policies and resulting change in urban heat island is far f...
